Away

Netflix has a new Sci Fi series in the works called Away, with a tentative page already up here. Initially there will be a few similarities to Another Life – mother leaves husband and daughter to go on a mission off Earth – but this one is stuck in our tiny solar system with a focus being a trip to Mars. Will the series be a much needed extended version of The Martian, or will it be more like the dire Mission to Mars? More information at the Netflix media portal here. ScifiNow lists some of the actors and roles here.

Krypton canceled

Sad news for Krypton fans. The SyFy prequel to Superman has been canceled after just two seasons. Plans for a Lobo spin-off have also been canceled. The problem? Just 400,000 views per episode. For another streaming service to take it over, those numbers need to be in the millions. You can watch episodes on Amazon here.

Obi-Wan is back?

Not one for prequels, or series set far in the past of something that has already happened, I’m not sure what to think about Ewan McGregor reprising his role to fill in the gaps leading up to A New Hope. Knowing Kenobi can’t die for another 50 years takes away any threat that dangers may have to the main character. Still, it’s Disney, so dying characters aren’t that common. Will it be called Star Wars: Kenobi? More info about the possible series at the The Hollywood Reporter here. I’d expect more concrete news about this to be revealed at the upcoming D23 expo – Aug 23-26. More about D23 here.

And speaking of Star Wars –

Memory Lane: Any Farscape News?

Tor recently gave a great write up about Farscape series 1 (here) which had me searching for news about this forgotten gem. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch series 1 on Amazon here. As it was one of my favorite series when it was first released, and I even once got to chat with Kent McCord during a break in filming (Kent played John Crichton’s father Jack in the series), I was eager to find if 15 years of waiting might have led to some new news. Almost a year ago, Den of Geek (Interview here) asked Brian Henson whether Farscape would ever return and he said yes, absolutely. He wants to bring it back but hasn’t quite found the right way to do it yet. And with other projects on, it could be a while.

Now, you might think that the story had ended there, but at the 20th anniversary panel at the San Diego Comic Con in July this year, Brian O’Bannon repeated the commitment to a return of the series, saying that what they wanted to do with Farscape would take longer than a movie, and they were looking at returning it to the small screen. Epicstream has more here

There are lots of ifs, but if even half the cast can return to the series, it would be awesome! Amazon, now’s the time to make that offer! Brian Henson’s Henson Company‘s business contact details here
