Star Trek: Picard

LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge from Star Trek: The Next Generation) speaks with CNN about making an appearance on Star Trek: Picard. He’s hopeful he, and other previous ST:TNG stars will be invited at some point. So, no Geordi in the new series yet. Fingers crossed for more seasons of Picard. More at CNN

The Man Who Fell to Earth

Recently confirmed by CBS All Access, the Man Who Fell to Earth will be a new series based on the book. Meaww has a great write up here

Doctor Who

  • Classic

Arguably one of the best seasons of the classic series, and one of my favourites, Doctor Who Season 26 starring Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred, will soon be released on Blu-ray with extended scenes, extra features and interviews. The biggest part of the promotion is that Sophie Aldred returned to not only be interviewed, along with Sylvester McCoy, but to play Ace again for a brief moment in a short script. Check out her appearance as Ace here:

The set is due to be released in December. More information here: Doctor Who – The Collection – Season 26

  • Terrance Dicks

Sadly, the man behind many episodes of the Pertwee era of Doctor Who, the writer of The Five Doctors special, and many more Target novelisations of the episodes, Terrance Dicks, has died at the age of 84. The Guardian has written an incredible obituary for him here. His last story will be released soon as part of Doctor Who: The Target Storybook

  • New

Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor will not only be fighting the Cyberman in an upcoming adventure in 2020, she’ll be doing it alongside Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein – a great way to celebrate the 200+ year old story. Frankenstein originally came out in 1818, but the idea for it was reported to have come from Mary’s visit to Geneva in the summer of 1816. If the episode is set in Switzerland, with the Doctor and companions also speaking with Lord Byron, John William Polidori and Claire Clairmont, it is going to dazzle and amaze. Mary was vocal in her support for cooperation and sympathy, and I can just imagine huge conflicts between her and the Doctor in wanting to let the Cybermen live. Info about the episode by The Express. Info about Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley on Wikipedia. If you haven’t read Frankenstein (a.k.a The Modern Prometheus) yet, you can download it free from the Project Gutenberg here

  • Nominations

Doctor Who and Jodie Whittaker have been nominated for the Welsh Baftas. Find out more here: Radio Times

Across the Void book and movie

Across the Void news. Deadline reports that Across the Void by S.K.Vaughn (pen name of Shane Kuhn) published by Skybound Books, in association with Simon & Schuster’s Atria division, has been picked up by Skybound Entertainment, Circle of Confusion and Universal Pictures. Apparently it is a survival thriller and love story about a woman stuck on a wrecked spaceship, with her husband at NASA helping her to get home. Review of the book by Digital Fix here.

So far, no further information has become available regarding production for the high concept title, besides producers and scriptwriter being chosen. Early days yet. Keep checking this link: Across the Void

Highly likely we won’t see the movie until at least 2021. In the meantime you should check out another Across the Void by Pixelberrystudios. A ‘Choices’ space opera game for your mobile, with aliens! Find out more here: Across the Void Choices

Memory Lane

Battle for the Planets

I used to watch this as a kid, so hearing that there will be a live action Battle for the Planets has me very excited. If you don’t remember it, or you knew it as Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, here’s a trailer for the classic cartoon:

The big difference between the original Japanese series and the reedited American version is the addition of 7 Zark 7 replacing the more violent bits, essentially making it a different cartoon. Will 7 Zark 7 feature in the American live action remake?

For those of you who are Gatchaman fans, you’ll know that a live action Japanese movie was made in 2013. Here’s the trailer:

The latest news is that the live action Battle for the Planets should be out by 2022. Awesome!
