Distant (Amblin Movie) in Production

Distant is currently in production. The high concept story revolves around an asteroid miner stuck on distant planet, being chased by strange creatures, who rescues a woman trapped in an escape pod. They work together to find a way to escape. Sounds like something made from a computer game, though word has it it will be more of a romance than a sci fi adventure. Still, distant planet, aliens. Tell me more! Updates from the Hollywood Reporter here

Space Invaders Movie Live Action in Development

New Line has moved Space Invaders closer by hiring Greg Russo to develop a script based on the 1978 computer game. He has another writing project at the moment and when he is finished that he’s likely to move straight to Space Invaders. So, the script hasn’t been written yet, but at least there’s now a writer! More info at Deadline here. I suggest 2021 for a possible movie release. 2020 is pretty full already.

Avenue 5

The HBO space tourism comedy, set in 2060, stars Hugh Laurie as Captain Ryan Clarke. With only two episodes left to be filmed, a fire destroyed sets and delayed production. No word yet on when it will be completed, but hopefully soon! Character profiles at HBO here

Riddick 4: Furya

Apart from the script having been written, there has been no further word recently on development or production. With Vin Diesel being in high demand with other projects, including the next Avatar movie, it’s possible we won’t see Riddick 4 until at least 2021. Follow Vin Diesel’s personal Instagram here.

TubiTV

TubiTV has soft-launched, and a lot of what they offer in the sci fi space is amazing, especially as their business model is ‘free – advertiser supported’ For example, you can watch Robert Picardo’s movie Age of Tomorrow, along with other direct-to-TV space opera movies, right now. Check it out here: Age of Tomorrow.
